Coleman Powermate Premium 6250-Watt Portable Generator?
My husband and I ordered this generator jusr. We live in South Floirda and tired of not being able each time a hurricane hits. It was a bit expensive. Any reviews out there? Did we get a good deal? We paid $ 547. Also, I have never used a generator in our lives. Any advice for safety? We were thinking of putting in the garage (the garage door open) if we lose power, which is intelligent? Really are looking for review, both positive and negative and safety tips. Is it really noisy? Thanks!
A couple of years, a severe storm snow knocked out power in my area of nearly two weeks. We were prepared with a generator of a lot like yours. While natural gas has for heat, we had to use the power generator, forced air fan in the oven and the power of the refrigerator and freezer. It was a pain, but we came through it much better than the neighbors. No loss of food and not frozen pipes, and not stay in a motel. Just a couple of working days lost because the roads were impassable. I agree with the other answers. Do not run from his garage. Carbon monoxide fumes find their way home. If you have purchased a generator decent at a competitive price. Now you need to know how to use it. Do not try to connect the generator to your electrical service panel. It can be done, but requires special equipment and should only be performed by a licensed electrician. Plan ahead for disaster. Will be limited to the number of electrical appliances can be connected to a generator. Calculate the charge on each device will plug into the generator to avoid overcharging. Plan to run the freezer and Refregerator sporadically and not open them unless absolutely necessary. The same goes for any other device. Make sure you have enough extension cords, heavy duty reach the whole team can. I would like to buy a Coleman stove for cooking instead of loading the generator with the task of feeding an electric stove. I also heat the water on the stove Coleman "baths of rats" instead of feeding an electric water heater. If you go to the image that food preservation is the priority, you are right. Note that the generator is used a lot of gasoline and must keep an eye on the oil. A lot of both is essential. Storage of gasoline is a problem. It is better gasoline use metal containers designed for the safe (smoke-free storage) of gasoline. They are expensive, but worth the investment. I would like to least fifty gallons available for a protracted emergency. If you fill the containers in anticipation of a hurricane and the storm does not materialize, use the gas in your car and buy fresh gasoline a day when the storm was predicted. The owner's manual for the generator should give a pretty good idea on the number of devices can be sure go for power with your generator. Best practice is to only run what is absolutely necessary. I hope this information helps. Good luck this storm season.
