Adding additional remote controls for garage door?

Anybody know how to add additional remote control transmitter for garage door. I just started renting a new place and that only with a remote control, I need like 2 more. It is a linear system, any information would help. Can you get any remote control and added to the current system or if you need to buy a new receiver and transmitter
